to
play the
game of skip
rope (also known as
jump rope). Skip
rope is engaged in either by a
single person or a
group of people together, using a piece of
rope. When one person plays, he
holds each end of a
rope and swings it over his head and jumps over it as it passes under his feet. When played by a
group, each end of the
rope is held by a
different person and the
rope is
swung in the same way, over and under the feet of one or more jumpers who mustn't
stop the
rope or let it
touch them. This
game is traditionally played in schoolyards. Skip
rope can also be performed as a physical exercise as it helps
develop the lungs, legs and
coordination and is a popular
training aid for boxers.
