the empire of ancient Rome centered at the city of Rome, in what is now Italy. According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 B.C., and the Roman Empire lasted up to A.D. 395, when it was divided into the Eastern Roman Empire and the Western Roman Empire. The Roman Empire is supposed to have lasted a thousand years and so on, and they bragged about it and talked about it and yapped about it and so forth.
