the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC); the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) headquartered in England; and the British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. The purpose of these organizations is to prevent children from suffering as a result of abuse and ill treatment, and to assist them to overcome it while protecting them from further harm. It also works to create greater public awareness of the nature and effects of child abuse. Similar societies have been organized in other countries.
