the House of Commons, composed of representatives elected by the people of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales; and the House of Lords, the membership of which is mostly hereditary (i.e., nobility inherit the positions). The House of Commons is the more powerful of the two houses and the leader of the ruling party in the House of Commons is the Prime Minister of Britain.
