GERMAN REICH (1)

reference to the Third Reich, the name given by the Nazis to their government in Germany; Reich is German for "empire." Adolf Hitler believed that he was creating a third German empire, a successor to the Holy Roman Empire (a Germanic empire of central European states which lasted from the ninth century until 1806) and the German Empire formed in 1871.
