a native or inhabitant of Germany, a country in north central Europe. During World War II, German scientists made great strides in the field of weaponry, especially with missiles, rockets, etc., and their scientific accomplishments aroused admiration throughout the world. At the end of the war, many German scientists either surrendered or were captured by the Allies, which included Russia and the United States.
