technologically advanced weapons. Fleming had a varied career, working as a journalist, banker and
stockbroker, and serving as a high-
ranking officer in British naval
intelligence during
World War II (1939-1945). He
returned to journalism in
London after the
war and published the first of his James
Bond stories, Casino Royale, in 1953. Twelve more titles followed,
selling millions of copies in a dozen languages and spawning numerous James
Bond movies.
