FIRST AMENDMENT

pertaining to the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States (the fundamental law of the United States, composed in 1787 by the Constitutional Convention) which forbids Congress (the national lawmaking body of the United States) from tampering with the freedoms of religion, speech, assembly and the press. A Massachusetts appeal court justice found Scientology to be a bona fide religion and instructed the lower court to watch their step in adjudicating claims involving the Church to ensure the First Amendment rights are not trampled on.
