CONSTITUTION

short for the Constitution of the United States: the fundamental law of the United States, composed in 1787 by the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia and attended by representatives of each of the former Colonies. It went into effect March 4, 1789. See also Colonies in this glossary. Ages after they passed their Constitution, they found out they had to have these Bill of Rights. And they sort of looked it over and they changed the status of the president and they changed this and they changed that.
