chart connecting all the areas that have an equal temperature at a
given instant or the same
average temperature over a certain
period of
time. For
example, the map of an entire country might be shown with a
line drawn over it linking all the areas of the country that have had an
average temperature of 80 degrees during the
past month. Such maps or charts are used in
forecasting the weather. The
term isotherm comes from the Greek words iso- meaning equal, and therme, meaning
heat.
