WHITE-ARM RESTAURANT

WHITE-ARM RESTAURANT
ScnTUEU
a coined term for an automat. Called this because all one sees of the "waiters" or "waitresses," who fill the food containers from behind, are the arms of their white smocks. See also automats in this glossary. I had a fellow one time come into a white-arm restaurant there in New York. -Basic Theory of CCHs (5 July 1957)
