VOICE TUBE

VOICE TUBE
ScnTUEU
n.a tube, usually made of brass, that is used to convey spoken messages, usually over a somewhat limited distance, as from one part of a ship to another. In smaller vessels, the voice tube is used to communicate between the bridge and the engine room. These tubes, also called speaking tubes or voice pipes, run from one location to another and are often fitted with whistles at each end for use in getting attention.
