The space between the center and the rim is divided into six sections, depicting the supposed states into which a person can be reborn (from that of a demon up to a god), and around the rim are twelve phases believed to be part of the cycle of existence, including such things as ignorance, sense organs, mind, sensation, craving, birth, old age, death and rebirth consciousness.
