intelligence which is gathered for use in the formulation of national and international policy and military plans. It includes collecting data about the intentions and capabilities of foreign nations. Of the three categories of intelligence, tactical (for combat operations), counterintelligence (stopping the efforts of an enemy's intelligence agents) and strategic, Strategic Intelligence (sometimes called national) is the broadest in scope.
