PODUNKER

PODUNKER
ScnTUEU
a coined term for a person from Podunk, meaning a fictitious small country village or town (thought of as insignificant and out of contact with the progress of the world). The term Podunk originated with a small tribe of Indians who lived around the Podunk River (a river located in Hartford County in the state of Connecticut, USA). In their language Podunk meant a corner of land, and several places in the northeast United States were given this name. It later came to be used as a name for an imaginary, insignificant, out-of-the-way town or a typical small town.
