an automobile manufactured by the
Ford Motor Company between the years of 1908 and 1927. Prior to 1908, the automobile was built individually, as the
customer ordered it, a luxury affordable only by the
rich. The
Model T became the first
motor vehicle successfully
mass- produced on an
assembly line, reducing its
price significantly. The car was reliable and easy to
drive (for
example, forward and reverse gears were simply controlled by a foot pedal). Approximately fifteen million were built before the
line was discontinued in 1927.
