psychiatric
authorities of his
time
. He differed from
Freud
in regarding the
libido
(
energy
or driving
force
) as a will to live rather than a
manifestation
of the
sex
instinct
, and held that a
neurosis
is to be understood more by
analysis
of the
patient
's present
problem
and inadequate adjustment than by unearthing childhood fixations and conflicts. He divided all men into two classesN
introverts
and extroverts.
