Isabella I (1451@1504), queen of Castile (a region and former kingdom in northern and central Spain) and wife of Ferdinand V (1452@ 1516), who was king of various Spanish regions in the late 1400s and early 1500s. In about 1480 Ferdinand and Isabella instituted the Inquisition in Spain, putting it under royal control.
