an American telecommunications company, established in 1920 initially in the Caribbean. The company expanded internationally and soon became a major telecommunications manufacturer. Throughout the mid-1900s, ITT, as it was most commonly known, acquired more than 250 other companies, including hotels, insurance companies and Caesars World, Inc. (a casino operations company). In 1995 the corporation divided into three separate companies; one consisting of insurance companies, one of hotels and buildings and one of electronics and automotive parts companies.
