m. a possible variation of iron-bound, meaning unyielding, rigid and inflexible, used in reference to rules, standards, customs, etc. This term is an allusion to something being as hard, rigid, sturdy or strong as an item bound together with iron, such as a wooden bucket that has strips of solid iron around it to keep the wood from splitting apart.
