degradation and poverty-stricken
conditions of farmers in the rural
south. One of the
main characters in the story is searching for
gold on his
property and determines an albino (considered to have
special powers) would be able to
help him find it. In his search for
gold he continually relocates a
plot of land he has pledged the
income from to the church.
