a humorous reference to Greek mathematician Euclid (Eukleides in Greek) who existed around 300 B.C. Euclid wrote on most branches of mathematics that were known in his time, including his Elements (of geometry) in thirteen volumes that became the basis of future geometry. He is also said to have taught mathematics in Alexandria, Egypt.
