to go
past a certain
point or from one
state into another, often applied to people who have gone
past the limit of
rationality and are now considered crazy. The
edge here is the extreme border of, the outside limit of something, somewhat like the
edge of a table or of a cliff. To go over the
edge means that something goes beyond this border and into that which is beyond.
