the name of an American professional baseball team in Brooklyn, New York at the time of this lecture.the name of a professional American baseball team formed in 1890, in Brooklyn, New York. It was called the Dodgers as people from nearby Manhattan referred to anyone from Brooklyn as a "trolley-dodger," as at the turn of the twentieth century, Brooklyn had numerous trolleys (a trolley is a vehicle that runs on tracks and is powered by electricity) and pedestrians often cut and dodged in front of them. In 1958 however, the team moved to Los Angeles, California and became known as the Los Angeles Dodgers.
