COUNTER CHECK

a check written by someone on a check form other than that supplied by his bank for his own account. Counter checks are just blank check forms obtainable in stationery stores, dime stores, etc. Counter checks are legal and valid in most states, providing they are properly made out and drawn on an account which does exist and which has an adequate balance to cover. A counter check is also a "postulate" check if the person either has no bank account or inadequate balance in his account to cover. (CO 1 US)
