short for Coca-Cola, the largest
selling soft drink
company in the
world. The drink Coca-Cola was first made by an Atlanta pharmacist in 1886 from coca leaves (from a small shrub found in
South America) and cola
nuts from the cola tree (found in such locations as Africa and
South America). Originally created as a cure for various ills and hangovers, it wasn't until the early 1900s that it became popular when another Atlanta pharmacist
bought the
formula and, through
wise marketing, expanded the
company throughout the first
quarter of the 1900s. The
company continued to expand and by the end of the twentieth century it was distributing and
selling their soft drink in every country in the
world.
