n.a type of lighting used for portraits, in which the main light is positioned in front of and somewhat above the subject, thus projecting the shadow of the nose straight down onto the upper lip. This small shadow resembles the outline of a butterfly, hence the name. This lighting also casts a pleasing shadow under the cheekbones and is one of the most flattering lighting arrangements. It is also known as glamour lighting and Hollywoodlighting and is commonly used when photographing fashion models and movie stars.
