a document that describes the fundamental rights of citizens in the United States. Among other provisions, the Bill of Rights protects the freedoms of speech, religion, assembly and the press; restricts governmental rights of search and seizure; and lists several rights of persons accused of crimes (including a clause which states that a person is not compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself).
