a reference to the phrase the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry, which means that the plans or schemes of any man, no matter how carefully arranged or thought out, may still be unsuccessful, go wrong or fail. The phrase comes from a line in the poem To a Mouse written by a Scottish poet, Robert Burns (1759-1796). In the poem, Burns tells of a
