the first telephone company in America, formed in 1877 by the inventor of the telephone, AlexanderGraham Bell (1847- 1922) and two other investors. After a number of reorganizations, the company eventually became the American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) Company and grew to become one of the world's largest communications corporations.
