the feasibility of using a
nuclear reactor
in a jet engine to provide the
heat
and
force
to propel the
craft
as opposed to other conventional methods. Although the
potential
of atomic
jet propulsion
was realized,
production
of such engines remained in the experimental stages throughout the twentieth century.
